David Sills Healthy again
Mon, Jun 12, 2023, 8:20 PM
Sills was dealing with a back or rib injury but appears to be healthy again, John Schmeelk of the Giants' official site reports.
Analysis: Sills returned to action after getting injured during a practice session in late May. The 27-year-old registered 11 catches for 106 yards in nine games last season, but could find his roster spot in jeopardy as New York's receiving room has become a lot more crowded throughout the offseason.
Practicing again
Mon, Jun 12, 2023, 8:09 PM
Flott has seemingly recovered from his hamstring injury, John Schmeelk of the Giants' official site reports.
Analysis: Flott suffered a hamstring injury ahead of the Giants' divisional-round loss to the Eagles but is now practicing once again. The 21-year-old played in 11 games during his rookie season, logging 26 tackles (15 solo) and will now compete for a larger role heading into his sophomore campaign.
Saquon Barkley
Saquon Barkley Won't rule out skipping 2023 season
Mon, Jun 12, 2023, 8:27 AM
Barkley said Sunday that sitting out the 2023 season amid contract negotiations is "a card I could play" if he and the Giants remain at an impasse, Kevin Patra of NFL.com reports.
Analysis: Barkley, who hasn't yet signed his franchise tender and looks set to skip the Giants' mandatory minicamp this week, noted that he wants to remain with the team for his entire NFL career. That said, the 26-year-old also made clear his frustrations with ongoing contract talks and acknowledged the possibility of a regular-season holdout. "That comes up in conversation if something don't get done by July 17," Barkley said of the deadline for both sides to agree on a long-term contract. The Pro-Bowl running back's importance to the Giants offense can't be overstated, so the team will have plenty of incentive to get the situation under control. Barkley is coming off a bounce-back campaign in which he rushed for 1,312 yards and 10 scores.
Rysen John
Rysen John Competing for roster spot
Fri, May 6, 2022, 3:20 PM
John (ankle) faces added competition for a roster spot following the Giants' selection of Daniel Bellinger in the recent NFL Draft, Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: The 6-foot-7, 220-pounder landed on IR last season, but now that he's presumably past the ankle issue that landed him there, John will look to secure a depth tight end slot this coming season. Also in the mix behind projected starter Ricky Seals-Jones are Jordan Akins, Bellinger, Chris Myarick and Jake Hausmann.
Kadarius Toney
Kadarius Toney Seemingly staying in New York
Wed, May 4, 2022, 3:49 PM
Bills coach Brian Daboll said Tuesday that he looks forward to working with Toney, who was the subject of trade rumors prior to the 2022 NFL Draft, NFL.com's Nick Shook reports.
Analysis: The Bills did add second-round pick Wan'Dale Robinson to an already-deep WR room, but they'll likely need help even if Toney has a big Year 2, considering Darius Slayton is in a contract year and coming off a poor season while Sterling Shepard works his way back from an Achilles tear. Plus, Kenny Golladay missed 11 games for the Lions in 2020 and then managed only 521 yards in 14 games in his first season with the Giants. It's a situation that could allow Toney to emerge as Daniel Jones' favorite receiver, especially after recent reports suggested that the Giants listened to trade offers but never actually shopped the young wideout. The team hopes a new coaching staff along with healthier seasons from Jones/Golladay/Toney will equate to huge improvement on last year's dismal passing offense (31st in yards, 30th in TDs, 19th in INTs, 31st in NY/A). Toney showed up to the voluntary offseason program a few days before the draft, after his absence early on led to some headlines and perhaps fueled the trade rumors.

The Giants selected Beavers in the sixth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, 182nd overall.
Analysis: Beavers is yet another player drafted off the Cincinnati defense. He played five seasons in college, including two at Connecticut, and turned into a tackling machine late in his career. Beavers had 99 tackles (12 TFL) and 5.0 sacks as a senior. Beavers checks in at 6-foot-3 and 237 pounds and turned in an impressive showing at the combine. He's long-limbed but is still a fluid mover with good change of direction chops and an ability to close on the ball carrier. Beavers can play anywhere in New York's linebacking corps.
Project lineman lands in Big Apple

The Giants selected McKethan in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, 173rd overall.
Analysis: McKethan is now the third lineman that the Giants have picked in this year's draft. He played 38 games (37 starts) over his final three seasons at North Carolina. At 6-foot-6, 340 pounds, he has prototypical size, but there are still questions about his quickness and athleticism.
New York adds in fifth round

The Giants selected Davidson in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, 147th overall.
Analysis: Davidson (6-foot-3, 327 pounds) is a big two-gap tackle out of Arizona State, one who figures to compete for playing time at the nose tackle position for the Giants. He's unlikely to show up on the box score all that much, but Davidson might help keep the Giants linebackers clean from blockers.

The Giants selected McFadden in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, 146th overall.
Analysis: The first of back-to-back picks for the Giants early in the fifth, New York honed in on the linebacker out of Indiana. McFadden lived in opposing backfields while with the Hoosiers, racking up 37 tackles for loss and 14.0 sacks in four seasons. He had double-digit tackles for loss in each of his final three seasons. McFadden did not test at the combine but ran a 4.62 in the 40 at his pro day at 234 pounds. He can get after the passer in Don Martindale's blitz-heavy scheme.

The Giants selected Belton in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, 114th overall.
Analysis: Belton was a playmaker in his time at Iowa, leading the Hawkeyes in both interceptions (5) and pass breakups (12) in 2021. He ran a 4.43 in the 40-yard dash at the combine but was average in agility testing. The Giants are lacking safety depth, so Belton could be pressed into a role as a rookie.
Big-bodied target to Big Apple
Sat, Apr 30, 2022, 11:31 AM
The Giants selected Bellinger in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, 112th overall.
Analysis: Despite starting each of the past three seasons at San Diego State, Bellinger never amassed more than 357 receiving yards in a given season. However, that doesn't mean he's simply a run-blocking specialist, as the big-bodied target has soft hands and is a more refined route runner than one might imagine given his lack of collegiate production. While unassuming veterans Ricky Seals-Jones and Jordan Akins sit atop the Giants' depth chart, Bellinger could carve out snaps as a run blocker, which might afford him a small amount of passing opportunities early on.

The Giants selected Flott in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft, 81st overall.
Analysis: Playing alongside Derek Stingley at LSU, Flott comes to the NFL at 6-foot, 178 pounds and boasting 4.50 speed. This pick appears to be something of a reach, considering the other corners on the board and Flott's lack of standout traits. He will compete for a depth role in New York's secondary.

The Giants selected Ezeudu in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft, 67th overall.
Analysis: Ezeudu played everywhere but center during his time at North Carolina and projects as a guard for the Giants with Andrew Thomas and Evan Neal set to serve as bookends. The Tar Heel has good anchor at 308 pounds and should challenge for playing time at either guard spot in New York.

The Giants selected Robinson in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft, 43rd overall.
Analysis: This is an interesting pick for the Giants as Robinson is a versatile piece who was not quite expected to go this high. Robinson began his career at Nebraska, where he split time between running back and receiver. He transferred to Kentucky for 2021 and was the engine of the Wildcats' passing game, catching 104 of 144 targets for 1,334 yards and seven touchdowns. Robinson is on the smaller end at 5-foot-8 and 178 pounds, but he's a tough runner with 4.44 speed. Per PFF, Robinson forced 22 missed tackles at Kentucky. Kadarius Toney, who is reportedly being shopped by the Giants, has a similar skill set where his best trait is running after the catch, so Robinson could be a viable replacement if the latter is moved before the season.

The Giants selected Neal in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft, seventh overall.
Analysis: New York addressed both sides of the trenches with its first two picks, nabbing Kayvon Thibodeaux at No. 5 overall and then adding a strong offensive tackle prospect in Neal with its next selection. Neal is a massive presence at 6-foot-7 and 337 pounds with 34.0-inch arms. He played three different positions at Alabama, including both tackle spots in his last two seasons. Neal took home first team All-America honors as a junior and physically dominated several future NFL defenders. Look for Neal to get plugged into the right tackle spot opposite Andrew Thomas to give the Giants a strong young nucleus at the bookends.

The Giants selected Thibodeaux in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft, fifth overall.
Analysis: Thibodeaux has had pressure on him since his days as a recruit when he was rated as the No.2 overall prospect in the 2019 cycle and he delivered despite those lofty expectations. He racked up nine sacks and 14.0 tackles for loss as a true freshman at Oregon, earning freshman All-American honors. Thibodeaux continued to produce in the following two years and registered seven sacks in nine games as a junior despite battling through an ankle injury suffered early in the year. He is light for an edge defender and his shorter arms for a player at his position (33.13 inches) raise some questions about his projection at the next level, but Thibodeaux is otherwise a standout athlete with impressive film and production. If New York focuses on his strengths as a pass-rusher, Thibodeaux will develop into a solid pro.
Contract option picked up
Thu, Apr 28, 2022, 12:58 PM
The Giants have elected to pick up Lawrence's fifth-year contract option, Jordan Raanan of ESPN reports.
Analysis: As a result, the No. 17 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft is guaranteed to earn $10.8 million for the 2023 season and slated to maintain his role as a key cog in the Giants' defensive front for the next couple of years. The 6-foot-4, 342-pounder is coming off a 2021 campaign in which he recorded 54 tackles and 2.5 sacks in 16 games.
Daniel Jones
Daniel Jones Option won't be picked up
Thu, Apr 28, 2022, 11:58 AM
The Giants don't intend to pick up the fifth-year option on Jones' contract, Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News reports.
Analysis: Per Ralph Vacchiano of SportsNet New York, exercising Jones' option would have committed the Giants to paying him $22.3 million in 2023. That said, if the 2019 first-rounder plays well this coming season, the team will have the option to pursue an extension with Jones or place the franchise tag on him next year. The QB, who turns 25 next month, remains atop the team's depth chart, now backed up by veteran signal-caller Tyrod Taylor.
Kadarius Toney
Kadarius Toney Joins voluntary workouts
Mon, Apr 25, 2022, 11:13 AM
Toney (shoulder) was present for Monday's voluntary workout, Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Per Ralph Vacchiano of SportsNet New York, it's unclear if that was the original plan for Toney (who wasn't present for start of the team's voluntary offseason workouts last week), or if recent trade rumors may have factored into the wideout's decision to join in. With that in mind, Vacchiano adds that he's been told the Giants weren't actively shopping the 2021 first-rounder. Instead, Vacchiano indicates that the team has been willing to listen if other franchises called about the 23-year-old, though that approach applies to other players as well. In any case, Vacchiano notes that it doesn't appear that New York is inclined to sell low on a player that was drafted 20th overall just last year.
Kadarius Toney
Kadarius Toney Could be moved
Fri, Apr 22, 2022, 5:44 PM
Pat LeonardNew York Daily News indicates that the Giants are open to trading Toney (shoulder).
Analysis: The report suggests that the Giants are making calls to other teams to see what they can get in return for the 2021 first-rounder, who wasn't present for start of the team's voluntary offseason workouts earlier this week. In his first pro season, Toney -- who was projected to add some speed and yards-after-the-catch ability to New York's offense -- dealt with a variety of injuries en route to catching 39 passes on 57 targets for 420 yards and no TDs in 10 games.
